Creative Commons Image Searching

Copyright friendly images are image resources where the artist, creator, or owner, has clearly posted licensing or use options for the resource. We recommend that students and teachers use Creative Commons (CC) licensed images in their work. CC licensed images include specific rights associated with the use of the images.

This symbol means that the image is in the public domain and you can freely use them and no attribution is required. Works in the public domain are typically images that were created by government agencies or the work is very old and it's copyright has expired.

Please keep in mind that when searching these resources from remote/home [[#|computers]] (computers not on the school network and thus not protected by our filters) that your filters may not be "strong" enough to block inappropriate images, e.g., images that appear based on a keyword search or ads that might appear on these sites. Make sure you are assisting your student with the image search process.

Creative Commons Image Searching

Simple Creative Commons Search

A search option which will search the Flickr image database just for CC licensed images. The cool thing is that when you find an image you want to use you get an embed code that includes the attribution so if you are embedding image in a document the attribution will automatically generate and be included wit the image. You can also click on the Stamp in image, select size, and when the image is generated you can right click on the image and Save Image As, Copy Image URL or if you are on a FSA Chromebook right click on image and select, Save to Google Drive, save to google drive.pngso you can embed image into a document or upload to a Web 2.0 tool.

Behold is a search engine that is designed to help you find the best Creative Commons licensed images for your blog, slideshow, or video project. Behold searches the catalog of more than one million Creative Commons licensed images on Flickr. What makes Behold different from just searching by using the license filter on Flickr itself is that Behold searches not just by image tag but also by the quality of the content of the images.
